What is Yoga?

Yoga is a mental, physical and spiritual Hindu discipline that seeks a permanent state of peace and unity. In Sanskrit the word yoga translates to “union”. It is this marriage of mind, body and spirit that leads to a state of stillness in the mind. Yoga is commonly associated with asanas (postures), pranayama or control of life force (breath) and meditation. However, these are only tools utilized to awaken, balance and heal the individual. Like a tree, yoga possesses many branches that reach and cover much more than just the physical realm.

Karma Yoga: the yoga of dynamic action and service to humanity

Jnana Yoga: the yoga of discriminative wisdom

Bhakti Yoga: the yoga of devotion

Hatha Yoga: the yoga of postures and breathing exercises

Raja Yoga: the yoga of concentration and meditation

Tantra Yoga: the yoga of integrating the polarities

Soul Warrior Yoga is a Hatha Yoga studio, that integrates traditional hatha asanas with ashtanga, vinyasa and restorative yoga.  We also integrate karma & bhakti yoga through the practice of seva or selfless service, by offering Yoga at the Park, our weekly class available to the community free of cost.
